Living With Type 2 Diabetes

A diagnosis of type 2 diabetes is an opportunity for you to educate your patients about coping with diabetes —including managing the stress and emotional impact of a chronic disease. By providing patients with considerations regarding the mental and emotional challenges of diabetes, you can help motivate them to set and meet goals for healthy behavioral changes.

Teaching the importance of diet and exercise

For newly diagnosed patients, type 2 diabetes provides an opportunity to begin to take better care of themselves—both emotionally and physically.

Helping patients as they begin coping with diabetes means that they need to know how a healthy diet and increased physical activity can affect their ability to manage their blood sugar levels. As your patients learn more about coping with diabetes, they can share their new-found knowledge with their loved ones and expand their network of support.
