People with type 2 diabetes often worry or feel guilty about eating fast food, but the temptations and sheer convenience of meals on-the-go are hard to resist. Before you start feeling like it’s easier to just stay home, read on. Eating in fast-food restaurants while following a healthy nutrition plan is not impossible; it just takes a little effort and a plan of attack (the tips below will help).
The news isn’t all bad these days
There’s good news and bad news when it comes to fast food. The bad news is that a lot of fast-food items are not great choices for people with diabetes. The good news is that, in recent years, many fast-food chains have added healthier choices to their menus, making it easier to grab something on the run without ruining your eating plan.
If you have fast food at 1 meal—and let’s face it, everyone has days where you feel like you just have to have a cheeseburger—modify your other meals and snacks to make up for it. If you are in doubt, check with your nutritionist or dietician.
