Welcome to Cuida tu Diabetes, Cuida tu Corazón!
My name is Chef Leticia Moreinos Schwartz. You may already know that Hispanics in the United States are more affected by type 2 diabetes than other ethnic groups. My grandfather lived with the disease, so I’ve seen firsthand some of the struggles, including adopting healthier eating habits, that people with type 2 diabetes can face. What you may not know is that people with type 2 diabetes are also at risk for serious complications, such as heart disease and stroke.
That is why I am partnering with Merck on Cuida tu Diabetes, Cuida tu Corazón, an educational program to help Hispanics living with type 2 diabetes understand that including small, but important changes in their lifestyle can help them.
In the Hispanic community, we all take to heart our families, our food, our culture, and our community activities. Since diabetes can have an impact on these aspects of our lives, I’m looking forward to sharing resources for you and your family. Through Cuida tu Diabetes, Cuida tu Corazón, you’ll find delicious, diabetes-friendly recipes for the whole family to enjoy and tips for living a healthier lifestyle.
Try these tips to help you get started.

“Por Tu Familia” Feria de Salud Events!
Throughout the year, Cuida tu Diabetes, Cuida tu Corazón will be teaming up with the American Diabetes Association to participate in select “Por Tu Familia” Feria de Salud events. I will host live cooking demonstrations to show you and your family how to make healthy and tasty dishes at home. Local food trucks will also serve up some of my delicious, diabetes-friendly dishes at the events.
Feria de Salud is a series of outdoor community events that are intended to reach thousands of local Hispanics with important messages about diabetes.
Feria de Salud captures the festive elements of a street fair, but maintains the important aspects of choosing and managing a healthier lifestyle for the entire Hispanic family. The Feria de Salud events are designed to showcase health services, diabetes care and screenings, and health education in a family-oriented fiesta environment, specifically for Hispanics.
