Coping With Type 2 Diabetes

A diagnosis of type 2 diabetes is an opportunity for health care providers to help patients deal with the stress and emotional impact of having a chronic disease. By providing patients with information about the mental and emotional challenges of diabetes, you can set patient expectations as well as goals and lay the groundwork for future patient visits.

For newly diagnosed patients, having type 2 diabetes provides an opportunity to begin to take better care of themselves—both physically and emotionally.

In “Mind Matters: Diabetes, Stress, and Type 2 Diabetes ,” patients can begin to understand and deal with the emotional changes they may experience as a result of their diabetes diagnosis, including
